Los Angeles Lakers players Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt face roster uncertainty

Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt face uncertain futures with the Los Angeles Lakers as the team looks to finalize its roster for the upcoming season. Reports indicate that the Lakers have been attempting to trade both players for an extended period, including throughout the previous trade deadline and this summer, but have struggled to find suitable offers.

Knecht, a 2024 first-round pick, is reportedly in competition with Jaden Hardy for the final roster spot as the team seeks to reduce its standard contract count from 16 to 15 players. While head coach JJ Redick has noted Knecht’s determination during training camp, the player’s statistical output saw a decline in his second professional season compared to his debut.

Jarred Vanderbilt is also expected to be moved, with reports suggesting he is no longer viewed as a primary rotation piece by the coaching staff. The Lakers' inability to secure trades for the duo has left their status on the team in question as the regular season approaches.
