Los Angeles Lakers reshape roster with youth focus, adding Quentin Grimes and others

The Los Angeles Lakers are undertaking a major roster overhaul, prioritising younger, athletic players to complement stars Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Veteran figures such as LeBron James (free agency), Rui Hachimura (signed by the Clippers), Luke Kennard, Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton (traded to Washington) are departing.

New additions include Quentin Grimes, Cameron Carr, AK Okereke, Peter Suder, Walker Kessler, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton and Jaden Hardy. Grimes praised head coach JJ Redick, recalling a training stint in the Hamptons and noting his 36.6% three‑point shooting, with hopes of improving alongside Doncic. The team has ruled out DeMar DeRozan as a free‑agent target and is reportedly eyeing 23‑year‑old Jonathan Kuminga, while also considering backup‑center options amid limited cap space.

These moves signal a clear shift toward a younger core as the Lakers navigate a constrained offseason.
