Los Angeles Lakers rookies aim to improve defense in Summer League

Rookie forward Cameron Carr highlighted his defensive shortcomings after scoring 18 points, adding two blocks and a steal in the Lakers' win over the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Las Vegas Summer League. He said, “I gotta be better… defensively,” and noted the team’s growing rhythm after three straight victories.

Second‑year forward Adou Thiero also drew attention, emphasizing the role coach JJ Redick gave him: “Just trying to go out there and cause havoc.” Thiero averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block while shooting 46.2 percent, though he has yet to make a three‑pointer in the two games played. Both players see the Summer League as an opportunity to sharpen their defensive impact before the regular season.
