Los Angeles Lakers sign guard Collin Sexton to two‑year deal

The Los Angeles Lakers announced the signing of free‑agent guard Collin Sexton on July 12, finalising a two‑year contract worth $19 million that was agreed in principle on July 1. Sexton, the 2018 eighth‑overall pick, has played eight NBA seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, averaging 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals last season. He has a career average of 18.3 points per game and shoots 47% from the floor.

Projected to be the primary guard off the bench, Sexton said he chose Los Angeles for the opportunity to compete and win under the league’s brightest lights. The Lakers, whose bench ranked 29th in the league with just 29.3 points per game last season, view Sexton as a scorer who can boost their reserve unit and potentially fill a starting role if needed.
