Los Angeles Lakers test new defense in preseason opener

The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing for their preseason opener against the Sacramento Kings, which will serve as a critical evaluation of head coach JJ Redick’s defensive schemes. Key defensive objectives include maintaining perimeter pressure without creating driving lanes, supporting interior defenders, and ensuring seamless transitions during lineup changes.

To bolster their rotation, the Lakers have signed veteran Matisse Thybulle to a one-year, $3.2 million contract. While Thybulle has seen declining playing time and athletic output over the last two seasons, the franchise hopes he can provide significant impact in crucial stretches, drawing comparisons to previous successful veteran acquisitions.
