Los Angeles Lakers to unveil Phil Jackson statue in 2027

The Los Angeles Lakers have announced they will unveil a statue honoring former head coach Phil Jackson outside of Crypto.com Arena. The ceremony is scheduled for April 9, 2027, prior to a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jackson led the franchise to five NBA championships during his eleven seasons, including a dynasty in the early 2000s with Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, and two additional titles in 2009 and 2010 with Bryant and Pau Gasol. Lakers governor Jeanie Buss praised Jackson, stating that his “masterful approach to coaching brought out the best in some of the greatest athletes to ever play the game.”

Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green expressed support for the tribute but questioned the timing of the decision. Green noted that Jackson’s impact on the organization and his five titles made the recognition an obvious necessity that should have occurred much sooner.
