Los Angeles Lakers show defensive intensity in early training camp

The Los Angeles Lakers have shown early signs of defensive intensity during the first two days of training camp. Austin Reaves noted that the team’s new defensive structure, anchored by 7-foot-2 center Walker Kessler, has made scoring difficult in practice. Reaves specifically highlighted newcomers Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams as standout defenders, alongside Adou Thiero.

Head coach JJ Redick has implemented a strategy to stagger the minutes of superstar Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves to ensure the team maintains a high-level creator on the court at all times. Redick also praised the physicality of the roster, noting that the high level of effort required players to modify the latter portion of recent practices.

Luka Doncic has reportedly arrived at camp in leaner physical condition. While Reaves has embraced a team-first role as a secondary playmaker following the departure of LeBron James, some analysts, including former Laker Danny Green, suggest Reaves still needs to prove he can maintain his production as a primary option during high-stakes playoff scenarios.
