Los Angeles Lakers sale terms finalized at $12.5 billion

Mark Walter and Josh Kushner have reached an agreement on all outstanding terms for the sale of the Los Angeles Lakers. The transaction is valued at $12.5 billion, a record for a professional sports franchise.

Walter and Kushner reportedly met at Walter’s home in Florida to finalize the deal. Kushner, the founder of Thrive Capital, is expected to serve as the primary owner alongside former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who is part of the purchasing group. Kushner has reportedly secured the necessary funds to complete the acquisition.

The sale follows a period of internal tension within the Buss family, as Jeanie Buss had previously challenged the legality of the vote to sell the remaining ownership stakes. Once the formal agreement is signed, the transaction will undergo a review process by the NBA. Final approval is required from the NBA Board of Governors.
