Los Angeles law enforcement arrests 23 in Skid Row drug operation
Law enforcement agencies conducted a large-scale anti-drug operation known as ‘Operation Save Skid Row’ in Los Angeles, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals. The coordinated effort involved more than 300 officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the FBI, and the DEA.
Federal authorities obtained 28 arrest warrants and 44 search warrants as part of the crackdown. Prosecutors allege that the targeted individuals were involved in trafficking narcotics, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, specifically targeting the vulnerable homeless population in the Skid Row area. Criminal complaints indicate that dealers often used stash pads outside the immediate area and sometimes disguised themselves as homeless individuals or city workers to evade detection.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated the operation aimed to remove criminals who exploit vulnerable residents, including those facing addiction and mental health crises. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli noted that the suspects often operated with luxury vehicles and utilized the environment to hide illicit activities.
