Los Angeles Lineage Logistics fire spurs city aid and recovery talks

A cold‑storage warehouse operated by Lineage Logistics burned for eight days in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, starting on June 17 and releasing thick smoke and toxins across the neighborhood. The disaster forced many local businesses to close and raised health concerns for residents.

Mayor Karen Bass and Councilmember Ysabel Jurado met with dozens of affected business owners and street vendors, acknowledging communication failures and promising to improve emergency outreach. The officials also pledged to work with the Department of Water and Power and the Department of Transportation on utility costs and parking enforcement.

Following the fire, city and county leaders sent a letter to Lineage demanding immediate housing, smoke‑and‑toxin remediation, financial relief for small businesses, and a multilingual hotline. Community members, led by Jurado, plan to present further recovery requests to Lineage, seeking emergency housing, health‑provider funding, and clearer notification of demolition activities.
