The aircraft, an Airbus AS 350 B2, was providing live aerial coverage of a separate fatal collision between an SUV and a Metro bus when it lost altitude and struck commercial buildings. The crash triggered a fire that damaged several vehicles and storage containers. Onboard video footage analyzed by investigators captured sounds consistent with engine power loss and pilot warning alarms.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are leading an investigation into the cause of the crash. Meanwhile, authorities have arrested Bailee Lynn Rios, the driver of the SUV involved in the initial bus collision, on suspicion of murder, driving under the influence, and reckless driving. A community vigil was held in Chatsworth to honor the victims.
