Los Angeles' Oceanwide Plaza towers cleanup launched by KPC Square and city officials

Cleanup crews have begun removing graffiti from the Oceanwide Plaza towers in downtown Los Angeles, the first visible progress on a development stalled since 2019. The new owner, KPC Square, hired 24‑hour private security and will keep fencing and barbed wire on site while the initial restoration, expected to finish in under 90 days, proceeds. The South Park Neighborhood Association and board chair Debra Shrout pledged to monitor the property to prevent further vandalism.

The towers, once part of a $1.2 billion luxury condo and hotel project by China’s Oceanwide Holdings, were abandoned after overseas investment cuts. A new buyer acquired the site for $470 million and is pursuing a revised bankruptcy plan. Mayor Karen Bass increased police presence and blocked access in 2024, facing criticism for the prolonged decay. The cleanup marks a step toward reviving the downtown skyline and preparing the site for future redevelopment.
