Los Angeles officials study alcohol consumption zones

The Los Angeles City Council has commissioned a 60-day study to evaluate the feasibility of creating designated entertainment zones in Downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood. These zones would potentially allow patrons to walk between bars and restaurants while carrying alcoholic beverages, similar to models currently operating in Santa Monica and Culver City.

City planners and state regulators are tasked with analyzing technical and regulatory requirements, including specific perimeters, operating hours, eligible businesses, and necessary oversight mechanisms. The study does not yet authorize public alcohol consumption or establish an implementation timeline. The Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council has expressed support for the initiative.
