Los Angeles police recover $1 million in stolen cargo

A multi-agency task force in Los Angeles has recovered approximately $1 million in stolen cargo following an investigation into merchandise pilfered from railroad property. The recovery included roughly 60 pallets of goods, such as Yeti products, Nike and New Balance footwear, JanSport backpacks, and Shark vacuums.

During the execution of a search warrant at a Whittier business, detectives identified the owner, 45-year-old Waseem Saman, who admitted to purchasing much of his inventory from illegitimate distributors. Saman was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property. The operation involved collaboration between the LAPD Commercial Crimes Division-Cargo Theft Task Force, Union Pacific Railroad Police, Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Police, Alameda Belt Line Police, Los Angeles Port Police, and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation.
