Los Angeles police union releases attack ad against Nithya Raman

The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) has released a new 30-second attack advertisement targeting mayoral candidate Nithya Raman regarding her stance on homeless encampments near sensitive locations.

The advertisement, titled ‘Nithya Raman Won’t Keep Our Kids Safe’, features a young girl walking past encampments. The spot utilizes previous remarks made by Raman during a debate against Mayor Karen Bass, in which she stated that a child would not necessarily be safer simply because a tent was located 500 feet away from a school.

LAPPL President Ricky Mendoza stated that as a City Councilmember, Raman has voted more than 75 times against banning encampments at over 500 locations near schools, parks, and daycares. Raman has argued against expanding the city’s anti-camping restrictions, known as Municipal Code 41.18, without parallel investments in housing, shelter, and outreach, maintaining that the city lacks the capacity to enforce such measures effectively.
