Los Angeles Rams address Australia comments and special teams struggles
Los Angeles Rams president Kevin Demoff has addressed criticism following head coach Sean McVay’s comments regarding the team’s recent trip to Melbourne, Australia. After a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, McVay expressed frustration with the experience, leading to concerns that the franchise might distance itself from the Australian market. Demoff clarified that the comments were a result of game-day frustration rather than a lack of commitment to the region, noting that the Rams remain one of four NFL teams holding global marketing rights in Australia.
Demoff also acknowledged that the organization missed opportunities to better engage with the local community during the trip, noting a difference between the team’s arrival and the organization’s overall presence.
On the field, the Rams continue to struggle with special teams performance. Despite hiring new special teams coach Bubba Ventrone and signing new players, the unit currently ranks last in special teams DVOA. Errors in recent games, including a 45-yard kick return allowed against the 49ers and punting issues against the New York Giants, highlight ongoing difficulties in this phase of the game.
