Stetson Bennett IV emerges in Los Angeles Rams quarterback competition

The Los Angeles Rams are currently evaluating their quarterback depth as the NFL preseason progresses. While head coach Sean McVay has not officially named Matthew Stafford’s primary backup, competition is heating up between veteran Stetson Bennett IV and rookie Ty Simpson.

Bennett has started both preseason games and recently drew attention for executing a signature no-look pass, a move often associated with Stafford. His performance has led to speculation regarding his trade value; several teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Cleveland Browns, have been identified as potential suitors if the Rams decide to capitalize on his experience rather than keeping him as depth.

Despite McVay’s noncommittal stance on the official depth chart, Bennett has received more second-team practice repetitions than Simpson. However, McVay confirmed that Simpson is definitely scheduled to play in the upcoming game against the Chargers, suggesting the competition remains active.
