Los Angeles: Two fatal accidents claim five lives in Chatsworth
Two separate fatal incidents occurred in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Initially, an SUV driven by Bailee Lynn Rios, who was allegedly driving under the influence, slammed into a metro bus. The collision killed two passengers, Gage Weida, 31, and Daniel Castillo, 46.
Approximately two hours after the bus accident, a news helicopter operated by KNBC-TV NBC4 and KVEA-TV crashed while providing aerial coverage of the scene. The crash and subsequent fire killed aerial photojournalist-reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw, and a pedestrian, Edy Gutierrez Mejia.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the helicopter crash. Meanwhile, the driver involved in the bus collision faces potential life in prison.
