Los Cabos firefighters control Estero Josefino blaze, marking two-year fire‑free stretch

Municipal authorities in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, reported that a forest fire in the central mezquite area of the Estero Josefino was brought under control and entered a cooling phase. The operation involved the San José del Cabo fire brigade, led by commander Omar Barreras Núñez, and was coordinated with the municipal Department of Ecology, Protection Civil, the public services directorate and local water‑truck units.

During the same period the XV Ayuntamiento of Los Cabos honored the brigade and fire‑fighter personnel for maintaining a two‑year record without major forest fires in the estuary. Mayor‑elect José Manuel Larumbe Pineda and Director of Ecology Jorge Armando López Espinoza highlighted the preventive measures, surveillance and inter‑agency cooperation that contributed to the fire‑free streak and praised the volunteers for risking their lives to protect the community and the ecosystem.
