Los Cabos launches tourism sector training to prevent child labor

The Los Cabos City Council has launched a training strategy for the tourism sector to prevent child labor and strengthen the detection and reporting of rights violations against children and adolescents. The initiative is being led by the Municipal Commission for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor and the Executive Secretariat of the Municipal Integral System for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA) in Los Cabos.

The first training session took place at the Hotel Sandos Finisterra, involving personnel from hotels, restaurants, and various tourism-related businesses. During these sessions, participants were introduced to tools for identifying risk situations and the specific mechanisms for reporting violations.

A key component of the program is the presentation of the National Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children and Adolescents in the Travel and Tourism Sector, an instrument from the Mexican Government's Secretariat of Tourism. Businesses can voluntarily and freely join this code to implement protocols aimed at preventing and reporting child labor and other forms of minor exploitation. The local government maintains a policy of zero tolerance toward child labor and aims to bolster inter-institutional coordination to ensure child protection.
