Los Cabos officials coordinate with ranchers for Baja 1000 inspections
The Los Cabos municipal government is coordinating with ranchers and rural community representatives in the sierra region as race teams begin route inspections for the BFGoodrich SCORE Baja 1000. These reconnaissance runs, which started October 24, have increased traffic on unpaved backcountry roads north of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.
Víctor Manuel Montaño Gaytán, the municipality’s director of public relations, has urged participating teams to drive responsibly, maintain moderate speeds, and respect all official signage and full-stop markers. Officials expressed particular concern regarding livestock, noting that recent rains in the sierra have made it more difficult for ranchers to contain cattle. Because livestock often graze near the course, any unreported incidents involving animals represent a direct financial loss to local families.
Teams that fail to follow safety guidance or ignore signage may face penalties ranging from time additions to full disqualification from the competition.
