Colombian journalist Jorge Alfredo Vargas faces sexual‑harassment charges

The Fiscalía General de la Nación has filed a request for a formal hearing of imputation against veteran journalist and former Caracol Televisión presenter Jorge Alfredo Vargas. The investigation stems from four complaints by women who worked with him between 2024 and 2026, alleging sexual harassment in the workplace. A fiscalía delegada before the Supreme Court will ask a judge to set the date of the hearing, where the charges will be presented.

Vargas was dismissed from Caracol in March 2026 by mutual agreement after the allegations became public. He has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he “maintained respect and professionalism during my 20 years at Caracol” and that the separation was “understandable given the institutional position.” The case has drawn comments from the press‑freedom group FLIP, which warned that the accusations reflect a broader pattern of harassment in Colombian media. No conviction has been reached; Vargas retains the presumption of innocence while the judicial process proceeds.
