Los Feliz sinkhole swallows Spectrum van after water main break
A water main break caused a large sinkhole to open in the 1900 block of North Normandie Avenue in Los Feliz on Wednesday morning. The break involved an 8-inch pipe, which officials noted was installed in 1938.
The incident resulted in a Spectrum service van being partially swallowed by the water-filled hole. A Spectrum spokesperson confirmed that the technician on site was uninjured. The Los Angeles Fire Department also responded to reports of flooding in the area.
Approximately 31 water customers were affected by the break. Local authorities closed Normandie Avenue between Franklin and DeMille Drive to facilitate repairs. While one lane in each direction on Franklin Avenue reopened by late afternoon, crews continued work to repair and repave the street through early Thursday morning.
