Los Javis film ‘La bola negra’ to premiere in cinemas September 25

The film ‘La bola negra’, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (known as Los Javis), is set to premiere in Spanish cinemas on September 25. Following a successful reception at the Cannes Film Festival, where the directors received a standing ovation and a Best Direction award, the production is preparing for an international rollout.

Produced with a budget of nearly $15 million, the film features an international cast including Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, and Guitarricadelafuente. The story is inspired by the work of playwright Alberto Conejero and draws elements from an unfinished project by Federico García Lorca.

Netflix has announced a strategic distribution plan for the film. In the United States, it will arrive in theaters on October 16 with an exclusive 46-day theatrical window—the longest granted by the platform to date—before streaming on Netflix on December 2. This approach is intended to bolster the film’s presence in award season conversations.
