Los Javis prepare ‘La bola negra’ for Oscar contention

Directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, known as 'Los Javis', are garnering significant attention for their new film, ‘La bola negra’. The production, which features Penélope Cruz, Miguel Bernardeau, and Lola Dueñas, is positioned as a strong contender to represent Spain at the Academy Awards.

The film is a narrative triptych that connects the lives of three gay men across three distinct periods of Spanish history: 1933, 1937, and 2017. The story draws inspiration from the unfinished manuscript of Federico García Lorca.

Following their Best Direction win at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the film is scheduled for release in Spanish cinemas on September 25. The production has been marked by two deaths, including an accident involving a 78-year-old extra on the set in Comillas.
