Los Lagos Governor announces healthcare and infrastructure investments
Los Lagos Regional Governor Alejandro Santana has announced plans to strengthen the public health network in the Osorno province. Key initiatives include the acquisition of ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) technology for the Hospital Base San José de Osorno to support patients with critical heart and lung complications, such as severe hantavirus cases. Additionally, progress is being made to establish an outpatient chemotherapy center at the Rahue CESFAM to improve cancer treatment access.
In a separate effort to improve regional connectivity, authorities are analyzing critical road infrastructure in the Osorno province. Discussions involving the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and local leaders from San Juan de la Costa focused on addressing 77 kilometers of problematic paved roads. The Ministry plans to hold technical meetings with municipalities starting October 26 to review investment portfolios for the 2026-2030 period and discuss the acquisition of specialized machinery for road maintenance.
