Los Lagos peony exports double to US$6 million

Peony exports from Chile’s Los Lagos Region have doubled, reaching US$6 million in 2025. This represents a 129.8% growth compared to the previous year, with the region accounting for approximately 43% of the country's total peony export value.

Production is primarily concentrated in the Osorno province. Producers are leveraging favorable agroclimatic conditions to supply international markets during the off-season, specifically targeting the United States and the Netherlands. Following the certification of the first maritime shipment to China, exporters are now looking to expand their presence in the Asian market.

While regional exports for the first half of 2026 showed a decrease to approximately US$1 million, officials note this is due to the highly seasonal nature of the industry. Most flowering, harvesting, and shipping occur during a brief period in the second half of the year. Chile currently maintains about 200 hectares of peony cultivation, with expectations for increased production and export volumes in upcoming cycles.
