Los Ángeles Azules to receive street recognition in California

The Mexican cumbia group Los Ángeles Azules will be honored in California with the naming of a new landmark. On September 14, the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Chase Street in Panorama City will be officially designated as ‘Los Ángeles Azules Square’.

Led by Los Angeles District 6 Councilmember Imelda Padilla, the ceremony coincides with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event aims to recognize the group’s international influence and their impact on the cultural identity of the Latino community in Los Angeles. The program includes a presentation of handprints in cement, an awards ceremony, and the unveiling of artworks.

Local officials, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, are expected to attend. The group, which originated in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, expressed that the recognition represents a significant honor and highlights the long-standing bond they have built with the Latino audience in the United States.
