Los Ángeles initiative promotes domestic composting for 80 families
The “Contigo Promovemos y Valorizamos los Residuos Orgánicos” initiative is promoting domestic composting for 80 families in the nororiente and Villa Génesis sectors of Los Ángeles. Funded by the Ministry of the Environment’s Recycling Fund (FPR) with 14 million pesos, the 12-month project provides vermicomposting and composting kits alongside environmental education and training.
The project aims to encourage sustainable waste management at home, reducing the volume of organic matter sent to landfills. This effort aligns with the National Organic Waste Strategy Chile 2040, which seeks to increase the progressive valorization of organic waste. Mario Delannays, the regional minister of the Environment, emphasized that managing organic waste requires commitment from individual households to transform daily waste into useful resources.
