Loïs Openda debuts for Lyon in Champions League loss to Sparta Prague
Belgian striker Loïs Openda, on loan from Juventus, made his first start for Olympique Lyonnais in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against Sparta Prague. Coach Paulo Fonseca placed the 26‑year‑old on the front line as Lyon sought to recover from a recent 0‑4 defeat to Real Betis.
Lyon were defeated 2‑1 in Prague. Openda was involved in several chances but received limited service, touching the ball only five times in the first half. Teammates and staff noted that his integration was still early, with expectations that his impact will grow as he adapts to the team’s tactics.
