Loïs Openda to miss several weeks with fibula fracture
Olympique Lyonnais striker Loïs Openda will be sidelined for several weeks following a fracture to his right fibula. The injury occurred during a Ligue 1 match against RC Lens, where Lyon suffered a 2-1 defeat.
Medical examinations confirmed the injury, and the Belgian international is expected to be unavailable at minimum until the next international break in November. His absence will force manager Paulo Fonseca to restructure the attack for several upcoming fixtures, including a Europa League match against Crystal Palace and a Ligue 1 clash against Nice.
In an official statement, Olympique Lyonnais expressed significant frustration regarding the officiating during the match. The club criticized the lack of player protection, noting that Openda suffered repeated fouls from the opening minutes with only a single disciplinary sanction issued. The club emphasized that the physical integrity of players must remain an absolute priority for referees.
