Ricardo “Oveja” Stec, historic Los Palmeras percussionist, dies at 66

Ricardo “Oveja” Stec, a prominent percussionist for the renowned cumbia group Los Palmeras, has passed away at the age of 66. The news was confirmed by the band via their official social media channels following his death on September 2.

Stec served as a tumbadorista for the Santa Fe-based ensemble between 1988 and 1992, a period marked by significant discographic production and the group's consolidation within the Argentine tropical music scene. During his tenure, he performed alongside key members including Rubén “Cacho” Deicas, Marcos Camino, and José María Roa. He contributed to the recording of five albums: “Loquito por ti” (1988), “Sus amigos” (1989), “Rumor de cumbia” (1990), “Chiquita pero buena” (1990), and “Boquita azucarada” (1991).

Following his time with Los Palmeras, Stec remained active in the cumbia santafesina scene, collaborating with various musical projects. The band honored his legacy by sharing archival videos and messages of gratitude for his musical contributions and the moments shared during his years with the group.
