Los Redondos tribute show “Una Obra Redonda” launches in Argentina

Fernando Casas, together with Leo Melis and Gerardo Anchava, has created a multisensory theatrical tribute titled “Una Obra Redonda” that dramatizes the unofficial history of the Argentine rock group Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota. The production blends live music, actors, monologues, audiovisual projections and performance art to trace the band’s evolution from 1976 to 2001, while also reflecting key moments in Argentine history such as the military dictatorship, the return to democracy, and the early 2000s crisis. Audience members experience a chronological narrative that interweaves iconic songs, historical figures like the “Negra Poli” and the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, and episodes such as the murder of Walter Bulacio. The creators describe the show as an immersive homage that moves beyond a simple musical tribute, aiming to connect generations and evoke the band’s mystique.

The production debuted in Buenos Aires, featuring live musicians who change costumes to match each era, and uses the stage to recreate pivotal cultural and political scenes. By merging theatrical techniques with rock repertoire, “Una Obra Redonda” seeks to mobilize and emotionally engage the audience in a live experience that cannot be replicated by recordings or streaming.
