Los Ríos launches audio series on 1960 earthquake memory

A new audio storytelling project titled ‘Terremoto 1960: Historia y Memoria’ aims to preserve the memory of the largest instrumentally recorded earthquake in history, which occurred on May 22, 1960. The project, led by journalist and researcher Daniel Navarrete, will feature sixty free audio capsules that combine historical research, narration, and sound design to reconstruct the event from various perspectives.

Funded by the Los Ríos Regional Government and its Regional Council, the initiative is based on several books by authors Daniel Carrillo and Daniel Navarrete, which compile nearly two hundred chronicles, testimonies, and curiosities related to the catastrophe. Regional Governor Luis Cuvertino noted that the project provides an opportunity to rescue one of the territory's most important historical episodes and strengthen local identity.
