Several high-profile legal proceedings are advancing in the Dominican Republic. In the Calamar corruption case, the Third Collegiate Court of the National District rejected defense requests to extinguish the criminal action, allowing the trial against former officials, including former Finance Minister Donald Guerrero, to proceed. The court ruled that the legal time limits for the prosecution have not expired.

Simultaneously, the Second Collegiate Court is set to rule on September 21 regarding similar extinction requests for 12 other defendants in the Jean Alain Rodríguez corruption case. The court previously denied Rodríguez's request, citing that delays in the nearly six-year process were reasonable and caused by various parties.

In separate criminal matters, a judge imposed three months of preventive detention on pastor Ángel Gabriel Capellán, accused of physical and psychological abuse and forced labor involving 14 minors at the Restaurando Vida foundation in Haina. His alleged accomplice, Isaías Ramón Muñoz Rodríguez, was granted economic bail.

Additionally, the Public Ministry has requested preventive detention for three Colombian nationals—Diego Armando González, Natali Valera Castillo González, and Laura Valentina Villegas—accused of operating a criminal network that sedated men in entertainment venues to steal money and valuables.
