Klaus Rader, L’Osteria co-founder, dies in Mallorca rally accident

Klaus Rader, the 63-year-old co-founder of the international restaurant chain L’Osteria and Vapiano, died following a car accident during the 550 Challenge Mallorca rally on October 9, 2026. Rader was participating as a test driver in a white Porsche 911 GT3 RS when the vehicle veered off a mountain road between Pollença and Lluc, plunging into a ravine near Mortitx.

His co-pilot, 39-year-old Christina Ettel, sustained serious spinal injuries and was hospitalized. Following the tragedy, organizers immediately canceled the remainder of the rally and all associated programs. Spanish authorities, including the Guardia Civil, are investigating the exact cause of the accident.

L’Osteria released a statement expressing profound shock and grief, describing Rader as a key part of their family and an inspiring entrepreneur. Rader, who co-founded L’Osteria in 1999, is survived by his wife, Viky, and four children. His wife has since requested privacy for her family during this period of mourning.
