LOT reduces winter flight capacity by 11 percent

LOT Polish Airlines is significantly reducing its winter flight schedule, cutting capacity by approximately 593,000 seats compared to early September. This reduction represents an 11 percent decrease in offered capacity.

The airline attributes these cuts to high fuel prices and the resulting impact on flight profitability. Unlike some competitors, LOT does not utilize large-scale fuel hedging, making it more vulnerable to fluctuating energy costs.

Key changes to the network include:

• Suspensions: Flights between Warsaw and Almaty, Bologna, and Dubai have been suspended. Other seasonal suspensions affect routes to Sarajevo, Podgorica, Skopje, and various destinations from Krakow and Gdansk. • Frequency Reductions: The airline is reducing the number of weekly flights to several destinations, including Madrid and Barcelona (from 14 to 6 flights per week), Belgrade, Zagreb, Athens, Sofia, and Istanbul.

While many of these routes are expected to return during the summer season, some connections, such as those from Gdansk and the Dubai route, may not be reinstated.
