Lota train derailment disrupts water supply for over 100 residents
A Fepasa freight train derailed on Sunday afternoon in the Colcura sector of Lota, Chile, causing a water main to rupture. The incident resulted in more than 100 customers losing access to potable water.
The broken pipe caused water and mud to enter a nearby residence, though no structural damage was reported and no injuries occurred. Emergency services have installed mobile water tanks at various locations, including Villa Hermosa, Puente Viejo, and El Mirador, to supply residents.
Repairs to the water main are expected to take up to four days. Both EFE and Fepasa are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the derailment.
