Lotta Kemppinen runs sub-11 second 100m in Espoo

Sprinter Lotta Kemppinen recorded a time of 10.95 seconds in the 100-meter race during a GP competition in Espoo, becoming the first Finnish woman to run under 11 seconds. However, the time will not count as an official record because the tailwind was measured at 2.3 m/s, exceeding the legal limit of 2.0 m/s.

Kemppinen, who had been recovering from an injury earlier in the season, expressed excitement about her performance, noting that her goal has been to break the 11-second barrier. Her teammate Nora Lindahl finished second in the final with a time of 11.07 seconds, which is also a personal best but not a national record.

Lindahl noted that her performance was affected by a leg injury sustained from her jewelry during the preliminary heats. Despite the wind conditions, both athletes showed significant improvement in form following the European Championships.
