Lottery winners secure major jackpots in Ohio and Italy
Two separate lottery stories highlight extraordinary luck in the United States and Italy. In Toledo, Ohio, a resident won two scratch-off jackpots in a single day using ‘Millionaire Blowout’ tickets. The first ticket was a $1 million prize, for which the winner opted for a $500,000 lump sum. After state and federal taxes, this resulted in a net payout of $366,250. A second ticket added another $18,312.50 after taxes, bringing the total post-tax winnings to approximately $384,562.
In Bitonto, Italy, a player recovered a €1 million winning ticket that had been mistakenly thrown away. The individual believed the ticket was non-payable after a shop could not process the large sum. After a relative identified the winning numbers, waste management workers from North Bari Environmental Services searched through a large pile of rubbish for two days. The ticket was eventually located in a plastic bag before the waste was sent to a landfill. The winner is expected to cover the costs associated with the recovery of the ticket.
