Louga celebrates World Animal Day by honoring equines

To mark World Animal Day on October 4, 2026, the NGO Action for Working Horses and Donkeys (Brooke), in partnership with the Federation of Peasant Associations of Louga (Fapal), held a special event in Louga to honor equines, including horses, donkeys, and mules.

Through the ‘Guedaal mala’ project, organizers provided free veterinary services to working animals, such as internal and external deworming and hoof trimming. Program manager El Hadji Ndiaye emphasized the importance of improving animal welfare and urged communities to avoid cruelty or brutality toward these animals.

Mamadou Thioune, deputy sub-prefect of Keur Momar Sarr, attended the event and praised the initiatives aimed at promoting better breeding and care practices in rural areas. He noted the vital economic role equines play in supporting agricultural work and providing transport for people and goods.
