Louis Clichy's animated film Le Corset receives acclaim

Louis Clichy's first feature-length animated film, Le Corset, has garnered significant recognition, including a Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard selection at the Cannes Film Festival and three awards at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Set in the Beauce region of France during the late 1980s, the film follows Christophe, an eleven-year-old boy from a farming family facing declining financial stability. Christophe suffers from a physical condition that causes him to lose his balance, leading to the requirement of an uncomfortable orthopedic corset. The story explores his personal struggles with peers and family, his connection to a local organist, and his budding relationship with a young girl named Clara.

Produced as a Franco-Belgian co-production, the film utilizes traditional animation techniques such as watercolor and India ink rather than 3D animation. The narrative touches on themes of the transition from childhood to adolescence and the shifting agricultural landscape of post-war France, including the impact of industrialization and genetically modified crops.
