Louis Din Dika Akwa IV crowned King of Akwa Canton
Louis Din Dika Akwa IV was officially crowned King of the Akwa Canton on October 10, 2026, during a traditional ceremony held on the banks of the Wouri River in Douala. The coronation marks a significant moment of dynastic continuity for the Bonambela people.
A physician and specialist in public health and epidemiology by training, Louis Din Dika Akwa IV succeeds his father, King Charles David Din Dika Akwa III, who passed away on December 8, 2020. The ritual included several symbolic stages, such as a royal procession in a pirogue from Mbanya and various initiation rites.
The event was attended by various administrative, political, and customary authorities, including ministers Ngalle Bibehe and Jean De Dieu Momo, as well as South African traditional dignitary Prince-Chief Nkosi Zwelicacile ‘Zwelibongile’ Ndamase. The ceremony concluded with traditional blessings from the chiefs of twenty villages.
