Louis Dobbelaar leads PNG Open after rain-affected opening day

Louis Dobbelaar holds a one-stroke lead following the opening day of the PNG Open at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club. The Queenslander posted a five-under 67, despite recording bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes.

Weather conditions impacted the tournament, as a heavy downpour forced officials to suspend play in the afternoon. Consequently, 27 players are scheduled to return on Friday morning to complete the first round.

Dobbelaar leads a competitive field that includes defending champion Cory Crawford, James Marchesani, Will Florimo, and Taj Egea, all of whom sit one shot behind. Local professional Gideon Tikili is currently two strokes off the lead after carding a three-under 69.

The event is part of the Challenger PGA Tour of Australasia and features a 120-player field. The tournament weekend also includes the PNG Women's Open.
