Louis Foster secures pole in Markham but crashes out of IndyCar race

British driver Louis Foster secured pole position for the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at the Markham street circuit in Canada. Driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Foster recorded a lap time of 1:13.238, marking his second career pole.

Despite his early dominance, Foster’s race ended prematurely on lap 43. After recovering from a strategic setback caused by a caution period, he attempted to overtake Marcus Ericsson but struck the inner wall at turn 3, resulting in a heavy impact with the outer barrier. Foster reported being uninjured but expressed frustration regarding the circuit's wall design.

The race also featured a notable performance by championship leader Alex Palou, who recovered from an unusual qualifying accident to finish in fourth place. Marcus Ericsson ultimately secured the victory, defeating Romain Grosjean in a highly competitive event.
