Louis Garrel discusses racism faced by daughter Oumy
French actor Louis Garrel has spoken about the racism experienced by his seventeen-year-old daughter, Oumy. The Senegalese-born girl, adopted in 2009 with former partner Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, has faced continuous racial prejudice.
Garrel noted that while parents often feel guilty or attempt to minimize these issues, the reality for Oumy involves constant racial attitudes and stares. He specifically highlighted that these experiences are more prevalent in Italy than in France. Despite being fluent in Italian, Oumy reportedly faces difficulties in Italy, such as people responding to her only in English.
