Louis Munteanu faces MLS controversy following disallowed goal

Romanian striker Louis Munteanu is making headlines in Major League Soccer (MLS) following a controversial disallowed goal during a match between DC United and Charlotte. In the 76th minute, Munteanu struck a shot from approximately 20 meters that hit the crossbar and appeared to land on the goal line. However, after a VAR review, officials ruled that the ball did not fully cross the line, resulting in the goal being invalidated.

Munteanu, who joined DC United in January 2026, has maintained a strong presence in the league, recording six goals and two assists in 22 matches. Despite the disallowed goal, his performance was highly rated, earning a match score of 8.1.

In addition to his club performance, Munteanu's professional history is highlighted by his long-standing connection to Gheorghe Hagi. Hagi, the current manager of the Romanian national team, discovered Munteanu at age nine while coaching at Galatasaray. Munteanu later spent several years at the Hagi Academy, scoring 25 goals in 84 matches, a background that provides a foundation for their upcoming collaboration with the national team.
