Louis Munteanu transfer: Rennes offer of €15 million rejected by CFR Cluj

Former CFR Cluj president Cristi Balaj revealed that the club rejected a significant transfer offer for striker Louis Munteanu from French Ligue 1 side Rennes. The proposal reportedly consisted of a €10 million base fee plus €5 million in performance-based bonuses, totaling a potential €15 million, alongside a 7.5% sell-on clause.

Balaj noted that the deal fell through because the club's leadership, specifically Ioan Varga, opted to decline the offer in hopes of securing a higher guaranteed sum. Balaj suggested that certain intermediaries may have misled the club regarding the availability of better offers. Munteanu eventually moved to DC United in the United States for €6 million.
