Louise Arbour to visit Gander for 9/11 anniversary
Governor General Louise Arbour will undertake an official five-day visit to Newfoundland and Labrador from September 8 to 12, 2026. This marks her first official visit to the province in her capacity as Governor General.
A central component of the trip is the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in Gander. During the visit, Arbour will participate in memorial services and meet with members of the Canadian Armed Forces at 9 Wing Gander in her role as Commander-in-Chief.
Arbour is also scheduled to meet with provincial officials, including Lieutenant Governor Joan Marie J. Aylward and Premier Tony Wakeham, as well as various Indigenous leaders.
