Louise Hansson awaits unpaid ISL prize money

Swedish swimmer Louise Hansson reports that she has yet to receive approximately 600,000 SEK (roughly $60,000 USD) in prize money from the International Swimming League (ISL) five years after her successful season in 2021.

Hansson, an European Championship medalist and two-time Olympic finalist, stated that while she received payment for her first season, she has not received any funds from her subsequent highly successful season. She noted that swimmers have reportedly only received starting fees rather than prize money. Due to the financial strain, the 29-year-old has taken a position at a bank to supplement her income.

The ISL, which faced disruptions following the invasion of Ukraine, has discussed plans for a restart. Hansson expressed hope that the league will settle its debts to maintain credibility as a professional circuit.
